Four MusicCast zones in a single 1U rack chassis
XDA-QS5400RK is Yamaha's Quad Streamer for custom installation: it manages four independent streaming zones and eight amplification channels in a 1U-high rack chassis.
The system is designed for wired, centralised multi-room installations. Four zones can play different sources or be synchronised, while the architecture can expand to as many as 32 zones by combining multiple units. MusicCast and IP control allow the QS to integrate with Yamaha electronics and automation systems.
Key features
- Four streaming zones and eight channels of Class D amplification.
- 1U rack chassis with removable brackets and dedicated front panel.
- System expansion up to 32 zones and synchronised groups up to 20 zones.
- MusicCast with app control and support for compatible streaming services.
- Ethernet with dual RJ-45 ports for network integration.
- Pre-outs for all four zones, usable with XDA-AMP5400RK or active subwoofers.
- Euroblock connectors, Aux/Cut-In/Chime-In inputs and Through outputs.
- IP, IR and 12 V trigger control for professional installations.
Four independent zones
Each zone has its own streaming section and can be managed separately from the others. Zones can also be grouped when the same music is required in several rooms; Yamaha provides synchronisation of larger groups and the possibility of expanding the system by linking multiple units into a large multi-room network.
MusicCast and network
MusicCast allows streaming services, network sources and shared content to be recalled and coordinated with other compatible Yamaha products. Ethernet is the reference connection for a stable installation, while the dual RJ-45 ports simplify rack wiring and IP control enables integration with external systems.
Amplification and pre-outs
The eight built-in channels can drive speakers directly in four zones, but each zone also provides a pre-out. These outputs can feed an XDA-AMP5400RK when more power or more speakers are required, or an active subwoofer, while keeping source selection and zone control concentrated in the QS.
Inputs for custom installation
Alongside network sources, the panel provides inputs intended for centralised installations, including Aux, Cut-In and Chime-In, with Through outputs for signal distribution. Euroblock connectors reduce rack clutter and suit the permanent wiring typical of professional multi-room systems.
Control and automation
IR ports and 12 V triggers work alongside network control to coordinate power and commands with other electronics. Web configuration simplifies commissioning and allows the installer to set up zones without relying exclusively on the app, an important feature in a permanently installed system.
Rack format and expandability
The 1U height and removable brackets allow XDA-QS5400RK to be installed in a technical rack while maintaining high channel density. The ability to combine multiple units, separate sources and zones and add external amplification makes the system suitable both for extensive domestic systems and installations that need future growth.
