Eight Class D channels to expand a Yamaha multi-room system
XDA-AMP5400RK is Yamaha's four-zone, eight-channel amplifier designed to partner XDA-QS5400RK or expand the Zone pre-outs of a compatible AV receiver.
The 1U-high chassis concentrates eight channels of Class D amplification and four configurable zones, with bridge operation available when greater power is required. Input/output buses, triggers, automatic signal sensing and Euroblock connectors are intended for centralised rack installations and for systems that need to grow without adding separate control hardware.
Key features
- Eight channels of Class D amplification organised into four zones.
- 50 W per channel into 8 ohms and up to 100 W per channel into 4 ohms.
- Bridgeable channels up to 200 W into 8 ohms under the stated conditions.
- Four audio buses with RCA inputs and outputs.
- Trigger In/Out to synchronise power with XDA-QS5400RK.
- Inputs with automatic signal sensing and IR In/Out ports.
- Euroblock speaker connectors and detachable mains cable.
- 1U rack chassis with removable brackets and magnetic front cover.
Eight channels in 1U
The 1U rack format houses eight channels without requiring multiple separate chassis. Each channel pair corresponds to one zone and can drive speakers directly, keeping the installation compact inside a technical rack. The rack brackets can be removed if the amplifier is placed on a shelf.
Power and bridge operation
Each channel delivers 50 W into 8 ohms and can reach 100 W into 4 ohms under the stated conditions. The four zones can be bridged when a speaker requires greater reserve, with outputs up to 200 W into 8 ohms; the configuration can therefore favour either channel count or power per zone.
Audio buses and flexibility
Four input and output buses allow sources to be distributed between zones and the amplifier to be adapted to different configurations. RCA outputs can feed active subwoofers or additional amplifiers, while the supplied jumpers simplify internal routing without requiring an external matrix for every need.
Circuitry and noise control
The power section uses ICEpower modules and a differential circuit designed to limit hum caused by ground loops, a common issue in racks containing many interconnected components. PML capacitors and balanced audio circuitry derive from solutions also used in Yamaha AVENTAGE AV receivers.
Triggers, IR and signal sensing
By connecting the triggers to XDA-QS5400RK, the required amplification zones can switch on and off together with the streamer without an additional control interface. With other sources, automatic audio signal sensing and IR In/Out ports remain available to coordinate behaviour within a custom system.
Installation and connectors
Euroblock terminals suit the permanent wiring typical of rack installations, while the detachable mains cable simplifies maintenance and installation. The magnetic front cover can conceal the front controls to prevent tampering and keep the rack appearance uniform once configuration is complete.
