The DL-103 evolution with 6N copper coils
Denon DL-103R is a low-output moving-coil cartridge with 6N copper windings, 0.25mV output, conical stylus and 2.5g tracking force.
Design and intended use
It begins with DL-103 geometry but uses 6N copper in the coils and lowers internal resistance. The aim is more refined detail transmission and greater transparency rather than increased level; output is actually slightly lower. It is intended for analogue systems already equipped with a suitable arm and quiet MC phono stage able to reveal the difference.

Selection and setup
It includes no tonearm and cannot connect directly to a line input. Phono-stage gain and loading must account for the low voltage and generator impedance, making electronic noise particularly important. Compared with DL-103 it is the step for listeners retaining the family's character and tracking while seeking a more ambitious coil and electrical interface.
The cartridge is only the pickup end of the system: results also depend on tonearm effective mass, geometry, gain and phono-stage loading. Alignment, vertical tracking force and anti-skating must be checked with suitable tools after fitting. A worn or dirty stylus compromises tracking and records regardless of generator quality.
