Welcome to the world of MC cartridges
Rega Ania is a low-output MC cartridge with elliptical stylus, aluminium cantilever, hand-wound micro-coil generator, neodymium magnet and rigid PPS body.
Ania brings many solutions developed for higher-level Rega MC cartridges into a more accessible structure. The generator uses a hand-wound micro-coil on an iron cross and a high-power neodymium magnet, while the glass-filled PPS body provides the dimensional accuracy required for the pivot system and three-point mounting. A rigid transparent cover protects the fine internal wires during installation and handling.
Key features
- Iron micro-cross assembly
- Very low-mass MC generator
- High-power neodymium magnet
- Elliptical stylus profile
- Aluminium cantilever
- Coil wound with 0.018 mm wire
Low-mass MC generator
The design uses a moving-coil generator without a conventional tie wire, with a diamond-shaped cantilever pivot and a miniaturised structure designed to minimise moving mass. The coil is hand wound on an iron micro-cross and operates within the field produced by the neodymium magnet. Low mass allows the system to follow groove variations more freely while preserving detail and response speed.
PPS body
The body is made from Polyphenylene Sulphide reinforced with 40% glass fibre, selected for hardness, dimensional stability and precision after moulding. The geometry incorporates Rega three-point mounting, which on compatible tonearms automatically sets the intended overhang. Steel inserts and body precision keep the pivot system and magnetic mechanism aligned, critical elements for correct cartridge operation.
Stylus and construction
Ania uses an elliptical stylus on an aluminium cantilever. The rigid transparent cover is designed to protect the fine internal wires during installation and make cartridge handling safer. The miniaturised generator and rigid body work together to maintain the correct geometric relationship between pivot, coil and magnet, avoiding unnecessary mass and joints within the moving structure.
Operating parameters
Nominal output is 350 microvolts, with a specified load impedance of 100 ohms and capacitance of 1000 pF. Recommended tracking force is between 1.75 and 2.00 g and mass is 6 g. The low output requires a suitable MC phono stage configured correctly for gain and loading.
