The Defiance V12 is a powered, ported subwoofer built around a 305 mm driver, intended for home cinema and stereo systems where deep bass is wanted and the adjustments are made from a smartphone app.
Defiance V12: the design
The Defiance V12 uses a 305 mm driver whose diaphragm is polypropylene filled with carbon, a material picked for its mix of stiffness and low mass. The cabinet is reflex-tuned and the port is shaped so that air passes through quickly with little turbulence, which keeps chuffing noises down as the level rises. Quoted on-axis response runs from 23 to 200 Hz within ±3 dB, and low-frequency extension reaches 18 Hz measured to the DIN standard.
The built-in amplifier is a Class-D design that wakes and sleeps by itself when it senses a signal, and it carries a soft-clipping circuit that makes the onset of overload gentler. The manufacturer's data sheet does not yet state the wattage, as the measurements are being revised; the Italian distributor quotes 120 W continuous and 250 W peak.
Set-up is handled from the phone: the low-pass filter can be moved between 35 and 120 Hz or bypassed altogether, and phase is continuously adjustable between 0° and 180°. The subwoofer is prepared for Anthem Room Correction, which tailors the response to the room. The rear panel offers two RCA inputs, two high-level inputs for connection to an amplifier's speaker terminals and a Micro USB socket used by ARC and for firmware updates; the Defiance WT wireless kit is a separate purchase.
