Sound
Each ear cup houses a 40 mm dynamic driver developed by Sonos, in a ported acoustic structure that reinforces the bass. With compatible sources and content, Ace plays lossless audio, both over Bluetooth and through the USB-C cable, and spatial audio with Dolby Atmos: head tracking, which is switched on in the Sonos app, keeps the sound stage still while the listener moves.
Noise cancellation and calls
Eight microphones pick up outside noise, and active cancellation adapts to how the headphone is worn. In transparency mode the sounds of the surroundings are mixed with the music; a dedicated button switches between the two modes. On calls, beamforming microphones separate the voice from the background, and sidetone lets the wearer hear their own voice naturally even with cancellation on.
TV audio in the headphone
One press of the content button moves the TV audio from a Sonos Arc Ultra, Arc, Beam or Ray soundbar to the headphone, in spatial surround with Dolby Atmos. TrueCinema adapts the result to the room, and two Ace headphones can be connected to the same soundbar. The Sonos app and a soundbar connected to Wi-Fi are required.
Comfort and controls
The headband is stainless steel and the ear cups have memory foam cushions covered in vegan leather, which can be replaced. The content button slides up and down for volume and is pressed to manage playback and calls; sensors pause the music when the headphone is taken off and resume it when it is put back on.
Battery and connections
The 1,060 mAh battery gives up to 30 hours of listening or 24 hours of calls with noise cancellation or transparency on. From empty, three minutes of charging are enough for three hours of listening, and a full charge takes three hours at most. Ace stays connected to two Bluetooth devices at the same time, a function that requires registration in the Sonos app, and can also be used wired: USB-C for charging and audio, 3.5 mm jack for analogue sources.
Included accessories
Ace comes with a slim travel case, with a removable magnetic pouch for the cables, a 0.75 m USB-C to USB-C cable and a 1.2 m USB-C to 3.5 mm jack cable. A compatible USB-C power adapter is needed for charging.
