Advanced moving-magnet technology
Rega Nd3 is an MM cartridge with N55 neodymium magnet, bonded elliptical stylus, aluminium cantilever, miniaturised-coil generator and Rega three-point mounting.
Nd3 is the result of more than ten years of development of Rega's new moving-magnet cartridge family. The design uses an extremely powerful N55 neodymium magnet, new generator geometry and miniaturised parallel coils wound in-house with 38-micron wire. The glass-filled PPS body is light and rigid, while the generator configuration is designed to achieve good channel symmetry and reduce inductance and impedance.

Nd technology
The N55 magnet makes it possible to create a compact, powerful generator whose principle is closer to some solutions used in MC cartridges. The miniaturised parallel coils use 1275 turns of very fine wire and operate with an optimised air gap to improve linearity and channel separation. Lower generator inductance also helps extend high-frequency response compared with previous Rega MM configurations.
Body, cantilever and stylus
The body is moulded from glass-filled PPS to very tight tolerances, providing a rigid structure with low mass. The aluminium cantilever carries a bonded elliptical stylus made from synthetic polycrystalline diamond and fixed to a circular shank. This configuration is designed to offer accurate tracking and stable groove reading while keeping overall weight suitable for Rega tonearms and the three-point mounting system.
Generator and construction
The coils are wound in-house and the generator geometry is designed to maintain the greatest possible symmetry between the two channels. The optimised air gap helps contain crosstalk and stabilise the magnetic system's response. The complete assembly is built by hand and inserted into the PPS body, a material chosen for rigidity and low mass, limiting dynamic load on the tonearm during record playback.
Pairing
Nd3 can also be ordered already fitted at the factory on Planar 3 as well as Planar 2 turntables. Rega's three-point mounting simplifies correct positioning on compatible tonearms and reduces the need for additional geometric adjustment within a Rega system. Rega specifies a tracking force of 1.75 g.
