Breaking the mould
Rega AYA is a pair of 2.5-way floorstanding loudspeakers with GRC cabinets, band-pass loading, ZRR tweeters, MX-125 mid-bass drivers and Rega RR7.8 woofers.
AYA is the result of a long development programme exploring an alternative cabinet to traditional veneered MDF structures. The enclosure is moulded in the United Kingdom from GRC, glass-reinforced cement, a material combining structural rigidity with controlled mass. Inside, the 2.5-way design pairs hand-built Rega drive units with a new crossover, with the aim of achieving a balanced and coherent response across the audio range.

GRC cabinet
The glass-reinforced cement structure uses glass fibres to increase the cabinet's mechanical integrity while keeping weight under control. The sculpted enclosure and dedicated support create a floating visual effect, but the material choice primarily answers acoustic and structural requirements. The moulding process makes each cabinet slightly different in tone, markings and small surface variations, characteristics considered a natural part of the material rather than finishing defects.
Drive-unit configuration
The system uses the Rega-designed ZRR tweeter, a 5" MX-125 mid-bass driver and a 7" RR7.8 woofer, both hand built. Band-pass loading and the front reflex port are integral to the design and allow low-frequency response to be controlled without relying on a conventional cabinet. Sensitivity is 89.5 dB and impedance 6 ohms, making AYA compatible with a wide choice of amplifiers.
Cabinet construction and behaviour
GRC is used to increase cabinet rigidity and reduce resonances that could overlap with the output of the drive units. Glass fibre reinforces the cement and allows a form that would be difficult to reproduce using conventional panels. The integrated base is also part of the loudspeaker structure and contributes to the floating effect, keeping the enclosure raised from the floor without requiring a large separate plinth.
Grilles and sales
The front grilles are optional and supplied separately; they attach magnetically without requiring changes to the cabinet. The price is for a pair.
