M40: powered towers 71 cm tall with C3 mid/bass drivers
The M40 is a micro-tower: a very compact floorstanding speaker that is easy to place and needs no stand. All the electronics are on board, so no other boxes are required: the Class D amplifiers deliver 50 W RMS per channel, with 100 W peak. One speaker houses the amplification and inputs, the other is passive. The DSP applies different equalisation depending on whether the speakers are in a corner, near a wall or out in the open, and the powered unit can be set as the left or the right channel.
Each tower carries two 125 mm mid/bass drivers with the C3 Continuous Curved Cone profile, the continuously curved diaphragm that gives capable but controlled bass and an even join with the 22 mm tweeter. The cabinet, a two-way reflex design, is stiffened by P2P (Point to Point) braces; although only 71 cm high it is still a column speaker, which is why the inside holds HPE (Helmholtz Pressure Equaliser) tubes to counter internal pressure and standing waves. Stated response is 38 Hz-22 kHz at -6 dB.
Bluetooth 5.0 supports the aptX HD and Low Latency codecs, as well as AAC and SBC, with audio up to 24-bit/48 kHz. The optical and USB Type B inputs accept signals up to 24-bit/192 kHz; the analogue ones are a set of RCA sockets and a 3.5 mm jack. A TV, set-top box, console, network streamer, CD player or a turntable with its own preamplifier can therefore be connected, and the dedicated output allows a subwoofer to be added. A remote control, spikes with covers and rear stabilisers are included.
