The Q Acoustics 5050 is the largest floorstander in the 5000 series: two 150 mm C3 mid/bass drivers, a 25 mm tweeter and a 39.7 litre cabinet to fill the bigger rooms. It is supplied as a pair.
5050: the reference floorstander of the series
At the head of the range, the 5050 is the model to choose when the room is large and scale and stage width are the priority. Its two 150 mm mid/bass drivers are the biggest in the series and use the C3 Continuous Curved Cone profile: the diaphragm's continuous curve brings more dynamics to the bass and an even join with the treble. They are newly designed units with greater power handling. The 25 mm tweeter, derived from Concept practice but in a new housing, is airtight and floats free of the baffle on a decoupling mount.
Like every column speaker, this one has to deal with pressure that accumulates in the cabinet and generates standing waves. HPE (Helmholtz Pressure Equaliser) tubes mounted inside cancel it and make the response more linear, while P2P (Point to Point) braces hold the panels still and give the stereo image a sharper focus. The baffle is bonded to a butyl rubber damping layer and trimmed in black acrylic, with no screws on show; the grilles attach magnetically.
Stated response is 37 Hz-30 kHz at -6 dB, with 91.8 dB sensitivity, 6 ohms nominal impedance and a 3 ohm minimum. The suggested amplifier ranges from 25 to 150 W and the crossover sits at 2.7 kHz. For each speaker the package includes a grille, a foam bung, four spikes with covers and two rear stabilisers.
