The SuperPack version of the Xtension 9 Evolution arrives with an Ortofon Pick it DS2 MC moving-coil cartridge pre-fitted: a belt-drive turntable with a 5.4 kg platter, magnetic supports and a carbon-fibre arm, ready to connect and play.
X-tension 9 Evolution SuperPack: what it includes
Compared with the turntable sold on its own, the SuperPack adds the Pick it DS2 MC moving-coil cartridge, mounted on the arm before delivery. The buyer therefore has no cartridge to choose and align, and also finds in the box the Connect it E phono lead, which runs from the deck's 5-pin connector to RCAs for an MC phono input, together with the Record Puck clamp and the lid.
The arm the cartridge works on is 9 inches long, with a seamless carbon-fibre tube and 8.5 g of effective mass; tracking force can be set up to 25 mN. The speeds are 33 and 45 rpm, with a button to go from one to the other, and the motor draws its current from an electronic generator that holds its pace constant.
The whole design revolves around controlling vibration. The 300 mm aluminium platter hides a TPE damping ring and carries a vinyl layer on its surface; its inverted spindle with ceramic ball is relieved by a magnetic prop, so it turns in silence. More magnets, in the three feet, float the turntable's 16 kg above the shelf and isolate it from whatever lies beneath.
