A high-end belt-drive turntable in a compact format, with a 5.4 kg aluminium platter, magnetically decoupled feet and a 9-inch carbon-fibre arm. The cartridge is chosen separately.
Xtension 9 Evolution: mass, magnets and carbon
The Xtension 9 Evolution packs the thinking behind the larger decks in the series into a modest footprint. The platter is precision-machined aluminium, with a TPE ring inside to kill its resonances and a vinyl layer above, the surface best suited to receiving a record. It weighs 5.4 kg, and to spare the spindle that load is partly carried by a magnet: rotation takes place on an inverted bearing with a ceramic ball, with noise and resonance kept to a minimum.
The three feet also rely on strong magnets, which hold the turntable clear of the supporting surface and separate it from vibration coming up through the furniture. The plinth, according to the distributor, is high-density MDF. The motor is fed by a precision electronic generator that improves rotational stability; moving between 33 and 45 rpm is done with a button.
The arm is a 9-inch design with a single-piece carbon-fibre tube and an effective mass of 8.5 g, and it accepts cartridges between 4 and 14 g. Along with the turntable come a Record Puck clamp, a dust cover and a Connect it E phono lead with a 5-pin plug at one end and RCAs at the other.
