Pro-Ject Xtension 10 Evolution SuperPack

A high-end belt-drive turntable with a 10.3 kg aluminium platter and magnetically decoupled feet, supplied in SuperPack form with an Ortofon Cadenza Red cartridge already mounted on the arm.

Xtension 10 Evolution SuperPack: the design

The SuperPack is the Xtension 10 Evolution complete with cartridge: the Ortofon Cadenza Red is mounted on the arm before delivery, and the turntable connects with the supplied Connect it E phono lead, which runs from the 5-pin connector to RCAs. Also in the box are the Record Puck clamp, the dust cover and four counterweights, with which the arm balances cartridges of 4 to 14 g.

The platter is the heart of the design: 10.3 kg of precision-machined aluminium, with a TPE ring inside to absorb its resonances and a vinyl layer on the upper face, in contact with the record. Such a mass would bear too heavily on an ordinary spindle, so the inverted stainless steel bearing with its ceramic ball is helped by a magnetic prop that unloads it and lowers its noise.

The same principle applies to the footing. The three feet contain strong magnets that hold the turntable's 26 kg in suspension and separate it from the surface it stands on. The motor is run by an electronic generator that steadies its rotation, and speed is changed with a button. The arm has an effective length of 254 mm and an effective mass of 8.5 g.
