A two-way bookshelf speaker, sold as a pair, with a 5 inch carbon and glass-fibre composite woofer and a 1 inch silk tweeter in a reflex-loaded MDF cabinet. It works with amplifiers from 10 W a channel upwards.
Speaker Box 5 E Carbon: drivers and cabinet
At the centre of the design is the 5 inch mid-woofer, its diaphragm a composite of glass fibre and carbon, partnered by a 1 inch silk dome. Both drivers sit in a very rigid MDF enclosure engineered not to resonate, with the reflex port venting through the back panel.
Pro-Ject quotes a level response from 65 Hz to 20 kHz and describes bass that is taut and powerful without robbing the whole of its musicality, with little colouration and a richly detailed image. Sensitivity is 86 dB into 4 ohms and suggested power goes up to 150 W; proposed matches include the Stereo Box S3 BT and the MaiA S3.
The lines are discreet and suit any room; the model comes in several finishes. Magnetically attached grilles are in the box, the gold-plated terminals accept banana plugs, and for wall mounting there is a bracket to be bought separately.
