A two-way hi-fi bookshelf speaker, sold as a pair: rear reflex port, 1 inch silk tweeter and 5 inch glass-fibre woofer. It takes over from the Speaker Box 5, which stayed in production for more than fifteen years.
Speaker Box 5 E: heir to a classic
For more than fifteen years the Speaker Box 5 was a fixture of the Pro-Ject catalogue; this E version is its updated re-issue. The recipe is unchanged: a small two-way box with the reflex port at the back and an MDF enclosure, easy to place on a stand, on a bookcase or, using the bracket sold separately, on a wall.
The maker sums up its character in a few points: bass that is tuneful and quick, regarded as the thing that counts most, lively dynamics, little colouration, good transparency and a fair depth of image. Doing the work are a 1 inch silk dome and a 5 inch mid-woofer with a glass-fibre diaphragm.
On paper: response from 68 Hz to 20 kHz, 86 dB sensitivity, 4 ohms nominal impedance and suggested amplifiers between 10 and 140 W. The gold-plated terminals accept banana connectors and the front grilles, included, attach with magnets. Offered in several finishes.
