A manual belt-drive turntable with an acrylic platter, a motor separate from the chassis and the 9 inch Evo carbon fibre arm. In this configuration it comes with the Ortofon 2M Bronze cartridge fitted.
RPM 5 Carbon 2M Bronze: how it is built
Much of the RPM 5 Carbon is handed down from the model higher up the range, the RPM 9 Carbon. The low-resonance chassis stands on adjustable aluminium spikes, handy for levelling the deck. The 300 mm platter is acrylic, an acoustically inert material, and turns on an inverted bearing with a stainless steel axle and ceramic ball, designed to cut mechanical noise.
The synchronous motor lives in an independent unit placed alongside the chassis. It runs on 15 V AC, with the voltage coming from a precision generator fed by a DC supply, an arrangement that makes speed more stable. Switching between 33 and 45 rpm is done by hand.
The 9 inch Evo arm has a carbon fibre tube and an effective mass of only 8 g; it accepts good MM and MC cartridges, and its TPE-damped counterweight keeps resonance in check. Here the cartridge is the Ortofon 2M Bronze, already installed. Also supplied are the Connect it E phono lead, shielded and low in capacitance, a clamp to hold the record down and a 45 rpm adapter. The lid is a separate accessory.
