The Debut PRO S Balanced is a belt-drive turntable with a 10-inch S-shaped aluminium arm with SME connector and the Pick it S2 C cartridge. It offers a balanced mini XLR output as well as RCA, and also plays 78 rpm records.
Debut PRO S Balanced: arm and drive
The Debut PRO S Balanced is built around fully manual use: you switch it on, lay the record down, move the arm over the groove and lower it. There are no superfluous switches, LEDs or lettering to distract. The arm is its signature: a 10-inch S-shaped aluminium wand, stiff and damped, with 254 mm of effective length, 8 g of effective mass and an SME connector. The arm base lets you set azimuth and VTA, with height varied by slackening two grub screws.
The 300 mm platter is die-cast aluminium, finished and balanced, non-magnetic and damped by an inner TPE ring. It rests on a diamond-cut aluminium sub-platter, which permits tighter tolerances. The Record Puck E that comes with the turntable adds damping and stability to the record. The bearing is a precision stainless-steel spindle turning in a bronze bush.
An electronically regulated synchronous motor turns the platter via the belt and is isolated from the chassis by a TPE suspension. 33 and 45 rpm are chosen with a toggle, and the round belt in the box is for 78 rpm. The signal leaves through a balanced mini XLR connector and through RCA sockets. Three damped aluminium feet, adjustable in height, lower the risk of acoustic feedback. The mains adaptor is external.
