The HEOS source that retains an existing amplifier
Denon HEOS Link HS2 is a streaming preamplifier without power amplification, designed to add HEOS to an existing stereo or AV system.
Role and differences
Fixed and variable analogue outputs connect respectively to an integrated amplifier or to a power amplifier or active speakers. It cannot drive passive loudspeakers directly, distinguishing it from Home Amp and HEOS Drive. It combines network streaming, Bluetooth, USB and local-source inputs that can also be distributed to other compatible zones.
Main features
- Fixed and variable stereo analogue outputs
- Optical and coaxial digital outputs
- HEOS with Wi-Fi, Ethernet and Bluetooth
- Analogue input, optical input and USB port
- FLAC, WAV and ALAC up to 192kHz/24-bit plus DSD
Connections and use
A trigger output and IR control assist integration with traditional electronics. Used with fixed output it leaves volume to the amplifier; with variable output it can act as a digital preamplifier. It is intended for users wanting to connect a capable existing system without replacing its power section or duplicating amplification.
Guided setup reduces the initial steps, although network quality, position and system matching remain important for stable results. Before final installation it is worth checking Wi-Fi coverage, mains outlets and any required cable routes. This keeps daily operation straightforward without compromising acoustically sensible placement.
