The Premier 820F V2 is the largest floorstanding speaker in the Premier V2 range: a ported three-way with two 177 mm Carbon-X woofers, a 152 mm midrange and a 25 mm ceramic tweeter, for bigger rooms and stereo or home cinema systems. It is sold as a pair.
Premier 820F V2: drivers and crossover
At the top of the series, the 820F V2 is the model that digs deepest: 21 Hz extension (DIN) and a quoted on-axis response of 52 Hz to 23 kHz within ±3 dB, reaching 20 kHz at 30° off axis. That comes from the two 177 mm woofers and a cabinet 110.2 cm tall, 33.3 cm wide and 47.2 cm deep, with rear reflex tuning and a weight of 29.5 kg per speaker.
The woofers have a one-piece, very long-throw Carbon-X cone, with third-generation ART, the Vertical Mounting System and a 25 mm multi-layer voice coil made for high temperatures. The 152 mm midrange is an AL-MAG aluminium and magnesium cone with a perforated PPA lens and a larger, 51 mm coil. At the top is the 25 mm tweeter: AL-MAC ceramic dome, OSW oblate-spheroid waveguide, PPA lens to align phase, and ferrofluid. The coil formers are vented Apical types.
The crossover, a second-order electro-acoustic network, leaves everything below 450 Hz to the woofers and moves from midrange to tweeter at 1.8 kHz. Sensitivity is the highest among the floorstanding models in the range, 93 dB in room and 90 dB anechoic, into an 8 ohm compatible load. Paradigm recommends amplifiers of 15 to 250 W and gives 180 W as the maximum input power.
