The Defiance S12 is a sealed active subwoofer with a 305 mm S-PAL aluminium driver, an 800 W continuous amplifier, built-in wireless reception and app management, for listeners who want deep, articulate bass with music and cinema.
Defiance S12: power and control
The Defiance S12 is the more powerful of the two Defiance S subwoofers. Inside the sealed cabinet, still compact, works a 305 mm driver with an S-PAL diaphragm in satin-anodised pure aluminium and a pressed-steel basket, designed for wide excursions. The Ultra Class-D amplifier makes 800 W continuous and 1,200 W peak available, and a 64-bit DSP governs how it behaves. The stated lower limit is 16 Hz (DIN), a figure typical of a far larger subwoofer.
As on the smaller model, the signal can arrive by radio: the receiver sits inside the subwoofer and the Paradigm transmitter is part of the package, so the position in the room is chosen for results and not for cable length. The rear panel brings together the LED-lit level knob, the sweep tone generator with start and pause, the pairing key and the choice of power mode between on, 12 V trigger and automatic.
The smartphone app gives access to the adjustments from the listening seat, and the subwoofer is ready for Anthem Room Correction, to be run with the separately sold ARC Genesis kit. The cabinet rests on built-in anti-vibration feet; spikes are provided for carpet. Maximum draw is 800 W, and in standby with the wireless section turned off it falls to 0.5 W. The model is offered in more than one finish.
