The CI Pro P80-RX v2 is a two-way coaxial ceiling speaker with a 203 mm woofer, made for humid spaces where an ordinary built-in model would be out of place, such as a bathroom or a sheltered patio.
CI Pro P80-RX v2: the design
Paradigm developed the P80-RX for high humidity: within the Canadian-built CI Pro range it is the model to pick when the ceiling belongs to a bathroom or to a sheltered outdoor area. The round cut-out measures 234 mm and 98 mm of depth behind the plasterboard is enough. The baffle is reinforced nylon and in-room sensitivity reaches 92 dB, so amplifiers from 15 to 110 W drive it without effort.
The 25 mm tweeter is made of AL-MAC, the mix of aluminium, magnesium and ceramic that Paradigm uses to combine stiffness, low mass and a natural damping of resonances; the perforated PPA lens in front of it puts the output back in phase, while the RED profile curbs diffraction at the edges. The woofer's CARBON-X cone is light and rigid, is driven by a long-throw voice coil and carries the patented ART surround moulded straight onto the cone: according to the maker it yields 3 dB more clean output than a conventional surround.
The die-cast aluminium basket has a built-in heat sink and is decoupled from the baffle by the Shock-Mount system, so vibration does not reach the frame. At the back a flat polycarbonate cover keeps debris away from the parts and lets the speaker rest on a surface during fitting. The nickel-plated spring terminals take thick cable or banana plugs, and the frameless micro-perforated grille is held by neodymium magnets and can be painted.
