Motion XT B100 is the most capable bookshelf speaker in MartinLogan's Motion series: a two-way with a Folded Motion XT tweeter and a 16.5 cm mid-woofer in Nomex-reinforced Kevlar. It is offered as a pair for those who want the most without stepping up to a tower.
Motion XT B100: the design in detail
XT B100 is meant for anyone who wants XT-line performance in a bookshelf format, for two-channel listening and home cinema alike. The cabinet measures 36.8 x 20.3 x 31.8 cm and weighs 9.3 kg; its underside has threaded inserts for fixing it to the STAND25 stand, available separately. The stated response runs from 45 Hz to 25 kHz within 3 dB, sensitivity is 93 dB and impedance 4 ohms.
The 32 x 61 mm Folded Motion XT tweeter, Gen2 Obsidian type, has 40% more area than the Folded Motion fitted to the non-XT Motion models and a larger motor, to the benefit of output and distortion. Its waveguide narrows vertical output to 45 degrees and leaves 90 degrees horizontally, in keeping with the dispersion of the mid-woofer. The handover between the two drivers is set at 2,600 Hz.
The 16.5 cm mid-woofer uses a Nomex-reinforced Kevlar cone, combining low mass, stiffness and good damping of resonance, on a die-cast aluminium chassis. Loading is bass reflex with the port at the back. On the rear panel twin terminals permit bi-wiring and bi-amping, and the suggested amplifier rating is 20 to 250 W. Its voicing is consistent with the Motion XT CI custom-install range, which helps in mixed installations.
