The angled version of the XTC8 ceiling loudspeaker, supplied as a pair: a 203 mm Kevlar woofer and a Folded Motion XT tweeter set at a fixed tilt towards the listener, for home cinema front channels or for seats some way off.
MOTION XTC8-HT: angled drivers
An ordinary ceiling speaker fires straight down, so its best spot lies directly beneath it. Used as a front or centre in a home cinema, though, it usually faces listeners sitting three metres away or more: XTC8-HT deals with this by mounting woofer and tweeter on a sloping plane, which the Italian distributor quotes as 49°, so that they point at the seating. The same applies to multi-room installations in which the speaker cannot sit above the area people use most.
The drive units belong to the Motion XT CI range: a Folded Motion XT tweeter with a pleated 114 x 70 mm diaphragm and a spread of 30° by 80°, and a 203 mm woven-Kevlar woofer with a Nomex layer behind and a concave dust cap. The two-way Vojtko crossover hands over at 2,000 Hz and guards the tweeter against thermal and current overload. Response runs from 51 Hz to 25 kHz and sensitivity is 91 dB; it wants 50 to 300 watts, into 4 ohms but equally from 8 ohm amplifiers.
The tilt makes this model bulkier than the XTC8: the hole is 291 mm in diameter, it occupies 178 mm of depth above the ceiling and the visible part measures 322 mm, standing 6.5 mm proud. It weighs 4.2 kg. The micro-perforated grille attaches magnetically, shows no frame and may be painted; the sprung terminals receive bananas, pins or stripped cable. A pre-installation bracket is a separate accessory, offered across the whole range.
