A two-way in-ceiling loudspeaker with a 203 mm woven glass-fibre woofer and a Folded Motion tweeter, sold as a pair: for anyone wanting more level and more bass from the ceiling than a 165 mm model gives.
MOTION MC8: woofer and installation
The MOTION MC8 is the one to pick for more output and deeper bass than the MC6: the same Folded Motion tweeter, the same kind of woven glass-fibre cone, but with a 203 mm woofer that takes more power. Quoted response goes down to 44 Hz and up to 25 kHz within ±3 dB, with 91 dB sensitivity; a suitable amplifier delivers 50 to 200 W and peak handling is 100 W.
Like the other ceiling models in the Motion CI range it runs open-backed and uses the air of the ceiling void to give the low frequencies more weight. Where not disturbing the floor above matters more, the back box can be added to enclose the rear output. The pleated-film tweeter has controlled dispersion and steers sound towards the listening area, a useful quality for the height channels of Dolby Atmos, DTS:X or Auro3D as well.
The Vojtko crossover hands over at 2,220 Hz. The cut-out needed is 235 mm across, with 122 mm of depth behind the surface and 8 mm standing proud. The round micro-perforated grille, slim and frameless, is paintable and clips on magnetically; the square one is optional. Sprung terminals take cable up to 12 AWG, and for building sites there are pre-installation brackets, bought separately.
