MOTION MC6: what is inside
The MOTION MC6 comes in the size most often asked for in a ceiling speaker: a 165 mm woofer which, next to the smaller MC4, takes more power, plays louder and reaches lower. Quoted response is 62 Hz - 25 kHz within ±3 dB. The speaker is built with no rear enclosure, so that it can load into the air of the ceiling void; anyone who has to keep sound from the floor above can add the back box, an accessory that may also be fitted at a later date.
The Folded Motion tweeter uses a very light film pleated like an accordion: its working area is eight to ten times that of an ordinary tweeter and the movement it needs is tiny, to the benefit of distortion and speed. The woofer cone, in woven glass fibre, is designed to keep up with it. Controlled dispersion steers sound towards the listening seats, which is why the maker also recommends the ceiling models of this range for Dolby Atmos, DTS:X or Auro3D.
The Vojtko crossover hands over at 2,570 Hz. The round micro-perforated grille is slim, frameless and paintable, and fixes magnetically; a square grille is offered as an option. Sprung terminals take cable up to 12 AWG. The hole in the ceiling is 194 mm across and about 113 mm is needed behind the surface; once fitted, the speaker stands 8 mm proud.
