MartinLogan ML-55AW

A two-way speaker for outdoor use with a 140 mm woofer and a titanium dome tweeter, in a sealed cabinet with a swivelling U-bracket for wall or ceiling. Offered as a pair and in more than one finish.

ML-55AW: the design

In MartinLogan's outdoor range the ML-55AW is the first step above the entry model: the woofer grows to 140 mm, response reaches down to 85 Hz and sensitivity rises to 90 dB, two decibels that matter in open air, where no walls reinforce the sound. The 25 mm titanium tweeter takes over at 2,300 Hz. At a little over three kilograms and about 25 centimetres on its longest side it is still easy to tuck under a gutter or onto a pillar.

The cone is mineral-loaded polypropylene, a material untroubled by damp, and it works in a closed box with no openings through which water could get in. The grille is aluminium protected against water and UV, the fixings are brass and the five-way terminals are gold plated. The speaker pivots on its U-bracket, made of stainless steel and polymer, so it can be pointed where needed. It wants 20 to 120 W per channel into 8 ohms.
