ElectroMotion ESLX: lacquered outside, unchanged inside
The special finish of the ElectroMotion ESLX concerns the woofer cabinet, lacquered in gloss black; the electrostatic panel stays satin black and nothing else changes. It is a floorstanding hybrid 150.3 cm tall, in which a 102 x 22 cm XStat panel (2,244 cm² of radiating area) covers the range from 400 Hz up and two 20.3 cm woofers with stiff paper cones, in an asymmetrical reflex chamber, take response down to 41 Hz. At the top it reaches 22 kHz, within ±3 dB. It accepts amplifiers from 20 to 400 W a channel, with 91 dB sensitivity and a nominal 6 ohms that fall to 1.6 ohms by 20 kHz.
The panel is shaped like a portion of a cylinder, as Curvilinear Line Source technology requires: the curve is what secures correct treble dispersion in spite of the size of the surface. Thin steel stators let you see through the panel, which all but disappears when you are seated. As a true dipole it radiates forwards and backwards in opposite phase: the two outputs cancel sideways, the flanking walls have little effect on detail and imaging, and sound reflected by the rear wall widens and deepens the stage.
The Vojtko-topology filter pairs air-core coils and steel-laminate inductors with polyester capacitors in series and low-dissipation electrolytics in parallel. Round the back are doubled bi-wire terminals, tightened by hand. The supplied ETC spikes give stability on thick carpet and a firmer footing on the floor, and stay under rubber caps that can be taken off.
