AV 20: 13.4-channel control for a complete but disciplined immersive theatre
A balanced processor with seven 8K HDMI inputs, four independent subwoofer outputs and HEOS, designed without internal power amplifiers.
AV 20 separates processing from power. Decoding, room correction, video switching and volume remain in a dedicated chassis, while AMP 20 drives the loudspeakers. Its 13.4-channel capability places it fra AV 10 e AV 30 and determines the scale of layout it can manage without replacing the processor.
Key features
- 13.4-channel processing
- seven 8K-compatible HDMI inputs
- balanced pre-outs for every channel
- four independent subwoofer outputs
- Dolby Atmos, DTS:X Pro and AURO-3D
- HEOS and Audyssey MultEQ XT32
Thirteen channels without blocking the next step
A 7.4.4 room occupies eleven paths; AV 20 retains two outputs for front wides or another height pair without moving to 15.4 scale. It fits an owner who knows the opening layout but wants a specific, usable margin for the theatre's second development stage.
Where cinema and stereo can meet
Balanced outputs may feed the front pair through a dedicated stereo amplifier while AMP 20 handles the remaining speakers. That division suits a room shared by concerts, two-channel listening and films: the processor preserves crossovers and levels while amplification is selected for each loudspeaker group.
Balanced all the way to the amplifiers
XLR outputs for every channel provide the natural link to AMP 20, particularly with remote racks or long cable runs. HDAM modules handle the analogue stage while the power amplifier remains free of processing duties. This division is the engineering reason to choose separates over an integrated receiver.
Correction for a domestic audience
MultEQ XT32 addresses level, distance and response, with optional Dirac Live allowing a more elaborate approach. Across thirteen paths it is wiser to measure a realistic listening area than chase one perfect chair. HEOS adds distributed music without demoting cinema calibration to a secondary task.
Position within the family
AV 20 is the middle step, with two fewer channels than AV 10 and two more than AV 30. With AMP 20 it forms a 13.4/12-channel chain for a substantial room without paying for unused 15.4 capacity. A planned 7.4.4 system may favour AV 30; extra height or width channels point towards AV 10. Its strength is architectural balance: enough outputs for extra width or height speakers without the oversized power platform of a 15.4 system. It is often the correct scale for a serious but not extreme dedicated theatre.
