The flagship of the Xtension series: belt drive, a 12-inch EVO arm, an MDF chassis weighted with steel pellets and magnetically decoupled feet, 30 kg in all. The cartridge is chosen separately.
Xtension 12 Evolution: how it is built
In the Xtension 12 Evolution mass is used methodically. The chassis is MDF filled with steel pellets: it therefore weighs a great deal, yet not being a solid block of metal it does not ring like a bell when excited. The platter is precision-machined aluminium, with a TPE damping ring inside and a vinyl layer where the record sits.
To turn a heavy platter in silence the spindle is inverted, with a ceramic ball, and a magnetic prop lightens its load, cutting noise and resonance. The three feet work the same way: their magnets hold the turntable suspended above the shelf and separate it from vibration in the room. The motor is fed by a precision electronic generator that steadies its rotation, and the three speeds, 78 rpm included, are changed with a button.
The 12-inch EVO arm has an effective length of 304.8 mm, which reduces tracking error compared with shorter arms, and an effective mass of 10.5 g. It accepts cartridges of 4 to 14 g with tracking force up to 35 mN. The kit includes the Record Puck clamp, the dust cover and a Connect it E phono lead with a 5-pin connector and RCA output.
