The iconic Planar 3
Rega Planar 3 combines the RB330 tonearm, 12 mm Optiwhite platter, Double Brace and 24 V motor in a rigid, lightweight platform compatible with Neo PSU MK2.
Planar 3 is one of Rega's most recognisable designs and has been reworked around the principle of a lightweight, rigid plinth. The structure is reinforced at the critical points between the tonearm mount and main bearing with Double Brace technology, increasing rigidity without adding unnecessary mass. The turntable uses the RB330 tonearm, a low-noise 24 V motor, the Advanced EBLT drive belt and a polished 12 mm Optiwhite float-glass platter.
Key features
- Precision RB330 tonearm
- Double Brace technology
- Low-noise, low-vibration 24 V motor
- 12 mm Optiwhite float-glass platter with polished edge
- Advanced EBLT drive belt included as standard
- Compatible with Neo PSU MK2 power supply, sold separately
RB330 tonearm
The RB330 is designed using CAD and CAM tools and uses a new bearing housing and aluminium arm tube with mass distribution engineered to reduce resonance. Precision bearing assemblies allow movement with extremely low friction and keep the tonearm stable during playback. The tonearm configuration retains broad compatibility with different cartridges and allows accurate adjustment of the playback system.
Plinth and Double Brace
The lightweight, rigid plinth follows Rega's philosophy of low mass combined with high rigidity. The upper and lower braces create a double structural connection between the tonearm pivot and the central bearing, the two points that require the greatest stability. The aim is to reduce energy absorption and unwanted resonance without resorting to a heavy chassis that could transfer mechanical noise more easily to the record.
Motor, platter and optional power supply
The 24 V motor uses a control board prepared for connection to the external Neo PSU MK2 through a mini-DIN socket. The upgrade enables electronic speed change and adds an advanced vibration-control circuit. The 12 mm Optiwhite float-glass platter, with polished edge, is built to provide geometric accuracy and consistent rotation; the Advanced EBLT drive belt is fitted as standard.
Main bearing and isolation
The brass main bearing has been redesigned to improve fit and reduce stress on the support. The sub-platter and feet have also been revised to increase rigidity, stability and isolation from the supporting surface. The result is a structure in which tonearm, rotational axis and motor work on a lightweight but locally reinforced base, following the typical Rega turntable approach.
Supplied accessories
Planar 3 is supplied with a clear dust cover. Neo PSU MK2 is an optional accessory and is not included.
