Rega Planar 2 combines the RB220 tonearm with a low-noise 24 V motor, a 10 mm Optiwhite glass platter and a structure developed to increase precision while keeping operation simple.
Planar 2 was developed alongside the current generation of Planar 3 and uses a set of solutions intended to retrieve more information from the record without making set-up complicated. The RB220 tonearm uses ultra-low-friction bearings, a more rigid and lighter housing and adjustable bias. The low-noise 24 V motor works with the Advanced EBLT drive belt, while the 10 mm Optiwhite float-glass platter contributes to consistent rotation.

RB220 tonearm
The RB220 is built to combine precision with ease of adjustment. Its bearing housing is rigid yet lightweight and contains Rega ultra-low-friction bearings. Adjustable bias broadens compatibility with different cartridges, while the integrated arm clip and custom aluminium arm tube keep the assembly neat and stable. The Carbon cartridge is the standard configuration, with the option to purchase the turntable with an Nd3 factory-fitted.
Platter, bearing and motor
The 10 mm Optiwhite float-glass platter is designed for greater geometric accuracy and smooth rotation. The 11 mm brass central bearing is self-locking and built to reduce stress on the support and the transfer of energy to the plinth. The 24 V motor uses a dedicated control board and works with the Advanced EBLT drive belt, while redesigned feet help improve stability and limit vibrations from the supporting surface.
Plinth and finishes
The laminated plinth is available with a gloss acrylic surface or walnut effect. The structure has been stiffened and the power switch is ergonomically positioned on the underside. Gloss finishes are supplied with a clear dust cover, while the walnut-effect version uses a smoked dust cover. The configuration remains compact and clean, with a set-up designed to be quick even for users approaching a turntable with an adjustable tonearm for the first time.
Supplied accessories
Planar 2 is supplied with a factory-fitted Rega Carbon cartridge or, in the relevant version, a pre-installed Nd3 cartridge. A dust cover is also included, clear on gloss finishes and smoked on the walnut-effect finish.
