An innovative turntable
Rega has built the new Planar 6 inspired by the highly successful and world-class RP8 and RP10 turntables. It is the first new Rega turntable to use Tan-Cast 8 ultra-lightweight polyurethane foam, developed for the aerospace industry, as the base material . This material is used in plywood with the new HPL high pressure laminate .
HPL is extraordinarily thin yet extremely stiff and comes in a beautiful Polaris matte gray finish with rounded edges in glossy black polymer .
The Planar 6 benefits from a single machined aluminum sub-platter, a new hand tuned 24V motor coupled to the new Neo PSU power supply and a specific pulley drive fitting Rega's ' upgrade ' belt.
The Neo PSU uses the same DSP (digital signal processor) generator as the RP10 built around a very high stability crystal. The DSP generator splits the signals from the crystal to extract the exact frequency required to spin the platter at the chosen speed. The DSP generator also produces a nearly perfect sine wave to power the motor.
All of this, plus an effective power amplifier, generates a balanced 24V AC signal with less than 0.15% distortion that is absolutely independent of any changes in mains voltage and conditions. This powers the anti-vibration circuit which is mounted on the bottom of the turntable. The recommended head for Planar 6 is the new Ania MC.
