Fyne Audio F1-8S: 2-way floorstanding loudspeaker with a 200 mm IsoFlare driver

The F1-8S is the floorstander of the F1 range intended for smaller listening rooms: the development team led by Dr Paul Mills combined the 200 mm Fyne Audio driver with a purpose-designed crossover. Sold as a pair.

The cabinet has two cavities and a BassTrax port, and according to the data sheet the bass extends to 30 Hz. The IsoFlare unit incorporates a time-aligned compression tweeter with a 25 mm magnesium dome, whose high-frequency response goes beyond 34 kHz. Its high sensitivity makes it suitable for a broad choice of amplification, whether single-ended triode valve units or high-power solid-state models. Two potentiometers adjust high-frequency energy and presence, so that the output can be matched to the room and to the position of the speaker. Design, construction and hand finishing all take place at the Fyne Audio factory in the UK.

Technical data

The crossover is a low-loss passive design, ready for bi-wiring and given Deep Cryogenic Treatment: second-order low-pass section, first-order high-pass section, crossover point at 1.8 kHz. Power handling is 100 watts RMS continuous and 400 watts peak. Dimensions (height x width x depth) are 1086 x 335 x 445 mm and net weight is 30 kg: both figures refer to a single speaker. Measured from the front edge of the cabinet, the official data sheet places the S-Trax position at 69 mm and the SuperTrax position at 45 mm.
