Fyne Audio F1-12S

Fyne Audio F1-12S: 2-way floorstanding loudspeaker with a 300 mm IsoFlare driver

The F1-12S is the floorstander at the top of the Fyne Audio catalogue and the successor to the earlier F1-12. Sold as a pair.

Its two-cavity cabinet stands on a machined aluminium plinth weighing 20 kg, inside which sits the BassTrax diffuser for the low frequencies. After years of research and development, the team headed by Dr Paul Mills redesigned the crossover and improved the 300 mm IsoFlare driver, fitted with a FyneFlute surround, to obtain more extended bass. The driver incorporates a time-aligned compression tweeter with a 75 mm titanium dome, whose high-frequency response goes beyond 26 kHz.

Key features

• 2-way system whose reflex port fires downwards onto a BassTrax Tractrix diffuser
• IsoFlare point source driver of 300 mm with a FyneFlute surround and a multi-fibre cone for bass and midrange
• Compression tweeter with a 75 mm titanium dome, neodymium magnet
• Frequency response 24 Hz - 26 kHz (-6 dB, typical in-room)
• Sensitivity 96 dB (2.83 V at 1 m), nominal impedance 8 Ohm
• Recommended amplifier power from 20 to 350 watts RMS
• Adjustments of ±3 dB: high-frequency energy (from 750 Hz to 26 kHz) and Presence (from 2.5 to 5 kHz)

Technical data

The crossover is a low-loss passive design, ready for bi-wiring and given Deep Cryogenic Treatment: the low-pass and high-pass sections are both second order, with the crossover point at 750 Hz. Power handling is 175 watts RMS continuous and 600 watts peak. Dimensions (height x width x depth) are 1350 x 450 x 680 mm and net weight is 72 kg: both figures refer to a single speaker. Measured from the front edge of the cabinet, the official data sheet places the S-Trax position at 133 mm and the SuperTrax position at 109 mm.

Finishes

The F1-12S is on sale in the Walnut Piano Gloss finish.
