Focal Theva N°3-D: floorstanding loudspeaker with Dolby Atmos channel
The Theva N°3 with one more driver on the top panel: a channel dedicated to Dolby Atmos effects, which sends sound towards the ceiling and lets it fall from above, so rain, storms and action scenes gain the vertical dimension too. On the front remain three 16.5 cm Slatefiber cones.
Two Focal technologies shape the character of the series. The Slatefiber cone, made in France, combines non-woven recycled carbon fibres, all laid in the same direction, with a thermoplastic polymer: the result is a stiff, light and well-damped diaphragm. The TNF tweeter has an aluminium-magnesium inverted dome and a suspension in Poron, a shape-memory material taken from the company's beryllium tweeters, which lowers distortion.
Build and finishes
The cabinet has a recessed front, metal rings around the drivers and a fabric grille held by magnets, with no visible holes. The diaphragm, grey and veined like slate, stays on show when the grille is removed.
