The Q Acoustics Concept 50 is the floorstander that sits alongside the Concept 30: the same technology in a low-resonance column with two 125 mm mid/bass drivers, for more power, a deeper stage and extended bass. It is supplied as a pair.
Concept 50: Gelcore tower on a sprung base
The Concept 50 brings the standmount's solutions to a tower. The cabinet is Gelcore: between two separate layers lies a gel that stays soft and dissipates higher-frequency vibration as heat. P2P (Point to Point) braces stiffen the panels at the critical points and control lower-frequency vibration, while HPE (Helmholtz Pressure Equalizer) tubes reduce the internal pressure and standing waves to which every column cabinet is subject.
The column stands on a suspension isolation system, a development of the isolating base that first appeared on the Concept 300: two plates kept apart by resilient spherical elements, which shelter the cabinet from outside vibration. Stereo image precision and bass extension both benefit. Here too the crossover is mounted on the base, away from the magnetic fields of the drive units.
The drivers are fixed to the aluminium front panel by pretensioned studs and have greater power handling than before; the 25 mm tweeter is airtight and floating. The distributor's data give a response of 42 Hz-30 kHz at -6 dB, 6 ohms nominal with a 3.6 ohm minimum, and amplifiers of 25 to 150 W. The terminals are doubled for bi-wiring. Supplied are grilles, foam bungs, support bases and both spiked and ball-ended feet.
