Motion F20 is the three-way floorstander that sits between the compact tower and the XT models in MartinLogan's Motion series: Folded Motion tweeter, glass-fibre midrange and two 16.5 cm aluminium woofers. It is offered as a pair, for stereo and home cinema.
Motion F20: the design
Next to the F10, Motion F20 grows to 112.7 cm in height and swaps the 14 cm woofers for a pair of 16.5 cm units: the stated outcome is bass reaching 35 Hz and wider dynamics, with amplifiers of up to 300 W. It is the model to look at when you want a balance of performance and footprint, whether in a two-channel system or as the front pair of a multichannel one. The crossover hands over at 230 and 2,600 Hz.
Midrange comes from a 14 cm cone of woven glass fibre, a light and tough material chosen to keep up with the tweeter on voices, dialogue and instruments. That tweeter is the 26 x 36 mm Folded Motion in Gen2 Obsidian guise, with 59.4 cm² of diaphragm and a strengthened magnet structure. The waveguide around it holds its output to 90 degrees both across and up-and-down, so the sound stays even over the whole seating area.
The two aluminium woofers sit on polymer chassis and work into an asymmetrical volume shaped to avoid resonance; the reflex tuning exits under the cabinet, which leaves freedom over where the speaker goes. The base rests on hand-adjustable outrigger feet, with rubber pads or spikes included, which level the cabinet on any floor and limit the energy fed into it. Round the back are twin terminals for bi-wiring or bi-amping; the load is 4 ohms with 92 dB sensitivity.
