Motion F10 is the smallest tower in MartinLogan's Motion series: a three-way floorstander with a thin-film Folded Motion tweeter and two 14 cm aluminium woofers, offered as a pair for anyone after a full sound from a cabinet less than a metre tall.
Motion F10: how it is built
At 97.1 cm tall including its feet, Motion F10 slips into a living room without dominating it, yet it remains a complete three-way design. Treble is handled by the Folded Motion tweeter in Gen2 Obsidian form, 26 x 36 mm, working from 3,000 Hz upwards; below it a 14 cm woven glass-fibre midrange carries the vocal band down to 280 Hz, where two aluminium woofers of the same diameter take over. The stated response runs from 38 Hz to 25 kHz within 3 dB.
The thin-film tweeter is what sets MartinLogan apart: for this second generation the magnet assembly was reworked to give more sound pressure with less distortion. It sits in a waveguide whose profile, picked from around fifty candidates, matches its dispersion to that of the midrange, so the tonal balance shifts little as you move along the sofa and room reflections count for less. The midrange, light and stiff, has a sealed chamber of its own.
The woofers use oversized magnet systems and the reflex port vents towards the floor, which makes positioning in the room simpler. The outrigger feet are adjusted for height by hand, no tools needed, with either the rubber pads or the spikes that come in the box, and they damp the vibration passed into the floor. With 92 dB sensitivity and a 4 ohm load, Motion F10 suits amplifiers from 20 to 250 W and has twin terminals for bi-wiring or bi-amping.
