JBL 4309: 2-way stand-mount monitor with HDI horn and 165 mm woofer
The 4309 is a two-way loudspeaker from the JBL Studio Monitor series, meant to sit on a stand. JBL developed it in Northridge, California, and it brings several of the maker's patented acoustic technologies into a cabinet of modest size. Sold as a pair: the weight and dimensions given below refer to one loudspeaker.
High frequencies are handled by the 25 mm 2410H-2 compression driver, which uses an annular Teonex diaphragm and fires into a horn shaped with HDI (High-Definition Imaging) geometry. Below it sits a 165 mm woofer with a cast frame and a Pure Pulp cone, loaded by a bass-reflex system whose two tuned ports open on the front baffle. An H-shaped internal brace stiffens the enclosure, and an attenuator lets the listener trim the level of the ultra-high frequencies (UHF). JBL states wide dynamics and highly accurate reproduction.

- Two-way layout: 25 mm compression driver on an HDI horn plus a 165 mm woofer
- Crossover point at 1.6 kHz
- Response at -6 dB: 42 Hz - 30 kHz
- Sensitivity of 87 dB (2.83 V at 1 m) with a 4 ohm impedance
- Suggested amplification: 25 to 150 W RMS
- Coverage at -6 dB of 100 degrees horizontally and 80 vertically, between 2 and 17 kHz
Technical data
With its grille fitted, each loudspeaker measures 419 x 260 x 227 mm (height x width x depth) and weighs 10.98 kg. The suggested height for the stand is 609 mm. The gold-plated terminals come in two sets linked by straps: with the straps removed, the loudspeaker can be bi-wired.
Finishes
Two finishes are on sale: Walnut, which comes with a dark blue grille, and Black, which has a black grille. Both cabinets are covered in a satin wood veneer, and the monitor-style grille is cut to follow the outline of the horn.
