ElectroMotion ESL X uses the new and larger XStat™ electrostatic transducer, with a larger radiating area than the EM-ESL model. It features 8-inch high-excursion woofers housed in an asymmetrical chamber and loaded in a non-resonant bass reflex, in a surprisingly compact package. The Woofers have custom designed high excursion high rigidity cellulose pulp cones.
ElectroMotion ESL X (EM- ESL X ) X features a larger electrostatic transducer and as many as two woofers. This allows for greater power handling and astounding performance for the price. The ElectroMotion ESL X features a new, larger XStat™ electrostatic transducer, with a 35cm 2 larger radiating area than the EM-ESL model. The 8-inch high-excursion woofers are housed in a non-resonant asymmetrical bass reflex enclosure, all in a surprisingly compact cabinet. The Woofers have high rigidity, long excursion cellulose pulp cones and are custom designed. The component elements within the EM-ESL X utilize the design and exhibit the performance of components used on many of MartinLogan's more expensive loudspeakers, such as custom wound transformers, air coils, large steel laminate inductors, electrolytic capacitors made of polyester and low DF. Custom 5-way binding posts allow for secure connections. The frequency response of the system is 41-22,000Hz ± 3db. Recommended amplifier power is 20-400 watts per channel. The impedance is 6 ohms (1.6 ohms at 20 kHz) and the EM-ESL X is compatible with amplifiers with 4, 6 or 8 ohms. For the ElectroMotion series an ad-hoc XStat ™ transducer has been developed to reduce the thickness of the steel stators of the electrostatic panel without, however, any loss of performance of the panel. A nice fallout from this is the increased visual transparency of the panel, which is now so transparent that it almost vanishes when you sit and listen.

CLS ™ XStat transducer
One of MartinLogan's original innovations, CLS™ (Curvilinear Line Source) technology, has been an essential ingredient in every electrostatic loudspeaker we've produced, and the ElectroMotion ESL X is no exception. Proprietary manufacturing methods allow for the construction of electrostatic panels as cylindrical sections. Their gentle horizontal curvature solves the problem of getting good high-frequency dispersion from a large radiating surface without compromising overall sound quality or reliability.
|
Another key attribute of the ElectroMotion ESL X is its naturally dipolar radiation pattern.
A true dipole, the EM- ESL X emits sound with equal intensity from the front and back of the diaphragm, but the outputs are in opposite phase. As a result, sound waves traveling sideways meet at the edge of the speaker and cancel each other out. That and the relatively large electrostatic panel size of the ElectroMotion ESL X means that the output to the sides is very low compared to that of a conventional loudspeaker, which in turn minimizes sidewall reflections which tend to confuse speakers. sound details and stereo imaging. While reducing output to the sides contributes to the astonishing clarity electrostats are revered for, the energy reflected off the wall behind the speaker opens up and deepens the sound.

Superb bass integration
To harmoniously blend the audio output from the high and mid frequency electrostatic panel to the low frequency dual woofer system, the ElectroMotion ESL X features a patented Vojtko™ topology filter using custom air core coils and steel laminate inductors Low DCR, polyester film capacitors in series and low DF electrolytic capacitors in parallel.
The EM- ESL X features two 8-inch audiophile-grade doped fiber cone woofers, specially designed by MartinLogan's in-house engineering and design team. This efficient woofer design optimizes the cone suspension and magnetic flux field to produce big bass with incredibly low distortion. Stiff and lightweight, the custom woofer diaphragm eliminates cone flex and minimizes response time, to achieve levels of performance approaching that of MartinLogan's larger and more expensive electrostatic loudspeakers.

Premium connections, solid adjustable foot
Custom 5-way bi-wire terminals allow for secure connections. The EM- ESL X is supplied with robust 3/8-16 ETC™ spikes, which can be used to adjust vertical wave throw, improve stability on thick carpets, and create a tighter coupling between speaker and floor to provide grip tighter and more detailed bass performance. Each spike is conveniently covered by removable rubber caps if you prefer not to use the spikes.
