A three-way centre speaker with an XStat electrostatic panel for the midrange, a Folded Motion tweeter and two 13.3 cm aluminium woofers. It is proportioned to sit inside AV furniture and rounds off an ElectroMotion home cinema system.
ElectroMotion ESLC: what is inside
The ElectroMotion ESLC brings the electrostatic panel to the speaker that carries dialogue in a film. Its XStat panel, low and curved on the Curvilinear Line Source principle, wraps across the cabinet front and covers the midrange between 600 and 3,400 Hz with 740 cm² of radiating area; the curve widens dispersion and helps the centre blend with the front speakers of the series. Above 3,400 Hz a 2.6 x 3.6 cm Folded Motion tweeter takes over from its housing directly behind the panel: a light diaphragm and short travel keep distortion down and make the treble quick. Overall response is 66 Hz to 23 kHz within ±3 dB.
For the bass MartinLogan uses an arrangement it calls CenterForce. Rather than placing woofers either side of the panel and widening the cabinet, it sets them in a central slot, in a well-braced volume at the back of tweeter and panel. Both 13.3 cm woofers have aluminium cones, stiff and light, which limits flexing and shortens response time. The outcome is a centre speaker 19.3 cm high and 57.9 cm wide that slips into common AV furniture while keeping a bass range of its own.
Sensitivity is 89 dB and nominal impedance 4 ohms, with suggested amplification between 20 and 300 W. The filter contains an audio transformer wound to order, coils with air cores, low-resistance steel-laminate inductors and polyester capacitors. Connection is made through posts that tighten by hand, with no tools required.
