The largest twin-woofer speaker in the compact Motion range: a sealed two-way with a Folded Motion tweeter and two 102 mm paper woofers, for use as a horizontal centre channel or as an upright front speaker beside the television.
Motion 8i: drivers and crossover
At 560 mm wide and 3.85 kg, the Motion 8i is the centre speaker to partner the 4i: the same tweeter and the same 102 mm paper woofer, here doubled up. Unlike the 4i its cabinet is sealed, with no reflex port, yet the stated response starts at the same 70 Hz and extends to 23,000 Hz. Both woofers have stamped steel baskets and stiff dust caps to resist cone deformation, and each works in an asymmetrical anti-resonant chamber. This is the model in the family that takes the most power: up to 180 watts.
The Folded Motion tweeter measures 26 × 36 mm and has a 133 × 44 mm diaphragm, pleated so as to pack into a few centimetres an area no dome could offer. It moves air by compression, with tiny displacements, which keeps distortion low and dispersion even at 80° in both planes: dialogue stays clear for those sitting off to the side as well. The crossover point is 3,000 Hz, handled by a Vojtko network using air-core and laminate inductors, polyester film capacitors and thermal and current protection.
The Motion 8i goes lying down under the screen or standing up at its sides, resting on furniture or fixed to the wall; the Italian distributor's catalogue records a supplied bracket that lets it tilt towards the listening position. The curved lines and perforated grille echo those of the other compact models in the series. Round the back, the push terminals are recessed so they do not stick out, steer the cable with curved channels and work with banana plugs as well. Sensitivity is 89 dB, impedance 4 ohms.
