JBL K2 S9900

JBL K2 S9900: three-way floorstanding speakers with a 380 mm woofer and magnesium and beryllium drivers

The K2 S9900 is a three-way floorstander designed around compression driver technology, as the Paragon and Hartsfield models were before it; JBL states a tradition of over 75 years behind this project and has included key elements taken from the Everest. In the Summit series it sits above the S3900 and S4700, which use titanium drivers, and below the Everest DD67000, which doubles the woofer. Sold as a pair.

The bass is reproduced by a 380 mm woofer with a pulp cone. Midrange and treble are entrusted to a 100 mm compression driver with a magnesium diaphragm, coupled with a patented Bi-Radial horn; the ultra-high frequencies go to a 25 mm driver with a diaphragm in pure beryllium. The crossover networks of the bass section and of the treble section are separate, as are their inputs on the rear panel, and two attenuators adjust the level of the high and of the ultra-high frequencies.

Key features

• Three-way design with a 380 mm woofer fitted with a pulp cone
• 100 mm compression driver with magnesium diaphragm on a Bi-Radial horn
• 25 mm driver in pure beryllium for the ultra-high frequencies
• Response from 48 Hz to 50 kHz (-6 dB) and sensitivity of 93 dB (2.83 V at 1 m)
• Crossover points at 900 Hz and at 15 kHz, with a slope of 24 dB per octave
• Recommended amplifier up to 500 W
• Level attenuators for high and ultra-high frequencies

Technical data

Nominal impedance is 8 ohms, with a minimum of 7 ohms at 100 Hz and of 4 ohms at 40 kHz. Each speaker is 1200 mm high, 560 mm wide and 350 mm deep and weighs 82.7 kg: these are measurements of a single unit. The gold-plated binding posts, with distinct inputs for the two sections, allow a bi-wiring connection.

Finishes

The cabinet is offered in two versions: Light Wood and Dark Wood.
