The Founder 70LCR is a sealed three-way speaker that can serve as left, centre or right channel, sold as a pair: a coaxial AL-MAG and AL-MAC mid/treble unit flanked by two 127 mm Carbon-X woofers, in a cabinet 48 cm wide.
Founder 70LCR: one speaker for three positions
The LCR label says what it is for: the same speaker can take any of the three front positions in a multichannel system, keeping the voicing uniform across the whole front stage. What makes this possible is the coaxial drive unit, in which the 25 mm tweeter with AL-MAC dome sits at the centre of the 152 mm AL-MAG midrange: mids and highs share the same origin. The tweeter works in the OSW waveguide behind the perforated PPA lens, is ferrofluid damped and has a patent-pending dual-gap motor; the midrange uses a Dual-Sync continuous-flux motor and is isolated from the cabinet by Shock-Mount fixing.
Bass is entrusted to two 127 mm woofers with a one-piece Carbon-X cone, third-generation ART surround and multi-layer high-temperature voice coil, which come in below 700 Hz; the tweeter takes over from the midrange at 2.2 kHz. The cabinet is sealed, with no reflex port, and is stiffened by internal Cascade-Fusion braces which, together with the faceted shape, counter resonances and standing waves. Its modest size, 20.4 cm high by 31.3 cm deep, helps in placing it where a floorstander will not fit.
Paradigm quotes an on-axis response from 79 Hz to 23 kHz within ±2 dB and bass reaching down to 47 Hz (DIN); at 30° off axis the response reaches 17 kHz. Sensitivity is 92 dB in room and 89 dB anechoic, with impedance compatible with 8 ohms. The recommended amplifier is 15 to 220 W, for a maximum power input of 150 W, and the terminals accept bi-wiring and bi-amping. Each speaker weighs 13.6 kg and is built in Canada, at Paradigm's factory near Toronto.
