Motion XT F200 is the top model in MartinLogan's Motion series: a three-way floorstander with a Folded Motion XT tweeter, a midrange in Nomex-reinforced Kevlar and three 20.3 cm aluminium woofers. It is offered as a pair, for those who want the greatest extension and dynamics the range can give.
Motion XT F200: what is inside
At the head of the Motion series, XT F200 gathers the most advanced solutions in the range into a cabinet 128.9 cm tall and 39 kg in weight. Its three 20.3 cm woofers take the stated response down to 27 Hz, the lowest figure among the towers in the series, and the suggested amplifier rating rises to 600 W. The three-way crossover passes the signal to the midrange at 300 Hz and to the tweeter at 2,600 Hz; sensitivity and impedance stay at 92 dB and 4 ohms.
Treble belongs to the Folded Motion XT in Gen2 Obsidian form, a thin-film driver of 32 x 61 mm with 79.8 cm² of diaphragm: 40% more than the Folded Motion fitted to the non-XT Motion models, paired with an enlarged magnet that lifts output and cuts distortion. The waveguide, whose profile was settled on after weighing up almost fifty alternatives, curbs reflections from the room and keeps the result steady off axis too.
In the middle is a 16.5 cm midrange in Nomex-reinforced Kevlar, shut in its own sealed chamber and responsible for voices and instruments. The aluminium woofers, with generous magnet systems and die-cast aluminium chassis, load a reflex port aimed at the floor. The outrigger feet are set by hand and take either rubber pads or spikes, both provided. Twin terminals allow bi-wiring and bi-amping, handy with a speaker that accepts power amplifiers of this size.
