The Monitor SE 2000C is the centre channel of the range: a reflex-loaded two-way with a 25 mm aluminium dome tweeter and two 140 mm mid/bass units, intended for dialogue in a home cinema system built around other Monitor SE models.
Monitor SE 2000C: the centre of the range
A centre speaker has to share the tonal character of the front left and right, which is why the 2000C uses the drivers found elsewhere in the range. Its two 140 mm mid/bass units have mineral-filled polypropylene cones, light and stiff, with inverted dust caps and downroll surrounds. They work together up to 2 kHz, where a second-order electro-acoustic filter passes the signal to the tweeter.
That tweeter is the 25 mm X-PAL dome in pure aluminium, cooled and damped with ferrofluid. Ahead of it is the PPA lens, perforated and covered by patent, which plays the part of a phase plug: it blocks many out-of-phase frequencies, so output increases and becomes more even with no colouring of the sound. The lens also keeps the dome safe from accidental knocks.
Sensitivity is 93 dB in room, with on-axis response from 65 Hz to 21 kHz within ±3 dB and bass extension to 53 Hz (DIN). The load is 8 ohm compatible and recommended amplification runs from 15 to 100 W. The cabinet, laid out horizontally, measures 18.3 × 50 × 28 cm and weighs 8.6 kg. This model too comes out of Paradigm's research with Canada's National Research Council. More than one finish is offered.
