The Founder 90C is the large centre speaker in the range: a sealed three-way with a coaxial mid/treble unit, two 177 mm Carbon-X woofers and two passive radiators, intended to give dialogue the same voicing as the Founder front speakers.
Founder 90C: the coaxial unit and the passive radiators
At the centre of the baffle is a coaxial drive unit: the tweeter with its 25 mm AL-MAC dome is placed on the same axis as the 152 mm AL-MAG midrange, so that mids and highs start from a single point. The tweeter keeps the OSW waveguide and perforated PPA lens of the floorstanding models, is ferrofluid cooled and uses a patent-pending dual-gap motor; the midrange has a patented continuous-flux Dual-Sync motor and is fixed with the Shock-Mount isolation system. The handover between the two takes place at 2.5 kHz.
Either side of the coaxial unit are two 177 mm woofers with a one-piece Carbon-X cone and a third-generation ART surround, active below 500 Hz. They are joined by two passive radiators of the same diameter and with the same diaphragm: these have no motor and move in response to the pressure inside, extending the bass of a cabinet that remains sealed. Woofers and radiators are decoupled from the baffle by the Shock-Mount system, and Cascade-Fusion braces stiffen the faceted cabinet.
Quoted on-axis response runs from 55 Hz to 23 kHz within ±2 dB, extending to 37 Hz (DIN); at 30° off axis the upper limit is 17 kHz. Sensitivity is 94 dB in room and 91 dB anechoic, impedance is 8 ohm compatible and recommended amplifier power is 15 to 260 W. It is ready for bi-wiring and bi-amping. At 90.8 cm wide and 22.6 cm high, it weighs 21.8 kg; any stand is not supplied. It is designed and built in Canada.
