JBL C82W: invisible built-in subwoofer on two panels with 203 mm woofers
The C82W is the subwoofer of JBL's Conceal series: a built-in system for walls or ceilings that, once finished, leaves nothing on show and extends downwards the range of the invisible loudspeakers of the same series. The system is made up of two panels, to be installed where bass performance is best, with no visual constraints.
Each panel holds two 203 mm woofers, acoustically coupled, mounted on a patented baffle made by compression molding and covered by an outer skin of paintable Fidelity Glass. The wooden back box is integrated: it seals the volume and limits the sound reaching the rooms next door. Unlike the C62, C83 and C86 models, the C82W has no crossover network and no internal protection, and it reproduces low frequencies only.
Key features
- Sealed subwoofer system, two panels for wall or ceiling
- Two 203 mm woofers per panel, 38 mm voice coil
- Suggested amplifier power: between 60 and 100 W RMS for every panel
- Impedance of each panel switchable between 4 and 16 ohm
- Sensitivity of 86 dB (1 W/1 m), taken in-room
- Response of 30 Hz - 300 Hz at -6 dB, taken in-room
Installation
The panels are fitted like plasterboard patches and the visible face is painted together with the wall until they cannot be told apart. Each one measures 762 x 403 x 98 mm (height x width x depth) and needs an opening of 765 x 406 mm (height x width), with 86 mm of depth available. The C30PCB pre-construction boards, used at the building stage, are purchased separately.
Connections
The connection is made on dual binding posts, spring-loaded and gold-plated. An external amplifier with a high-pass filter, a low-pass filter and a limiter is required, since frequency filtering and protection are not on board the panels.
