A 5.2 hub for television, cinema and network music
Five channels, dual subwoofer outputs and 8K video for systems without height speakers.
The AVC-S670H is the most straightforward AV amplifier in this batch: it powers five speakers and manages two subwoofers, without height channels or Dolby Atmos and DTS:X decoding. Its 75W per channel into 8 ohms is intended for sensibly sized living-room 5.1 or 5.2 systems. It is the right step when the priority is to unite a TV, console, turntable and streaming rather than build a three-dimensional system.
Key features
- Five discrete channels rated at 75W per channel into 8 ohms
- 5.1 or 5.2 layouts with two subwoofer outputs
- Six HDMI inputs, three supporting 8K, and eARC output
- Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio for lossless soundtracks
- HEOS, AirPlay 2, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Roon Tested status
- MM phono input and Audyssey MultEQ calibration
Simple, yet not restricted to video sources
Three HDMI inputs accept signals up to 8K/60 and 4K/120, with VRR, ALLM and QFT for gaming. HEOS broadens everyday use with streaming, internet radio and high-resolution files from the home network, while the Bluetooth transmitter can send audio to compatible headphones. An MM phono input also accepts a suitable turntable directly.
The comparison with the X1800H DAB is clear: the AVC-S670H gives up two power stages, object-based audio and DAB+ radio, but retains networking, 8K and room correction. It therefore makes more sense for anyone committed to 5.2 who would rather not pay for expansion features they will not use.
The absence of object-based formats is a deliberate design distinction rather than a hidden limitation: this model handles conventional lossless soundtracks and concentrates its resources on five speakers. In a room without ceiling speakers or upward-firing modules, this configuration may be more rational than buying a 7.2 amplifier that remains permanently underused.
