Goldring 1042

Goldring 1042: MM cartridge with Gyger S stylus

The 1042 is the top of the 1000 Series: the cartridge for those who want the most from a moving magnet without giving up the replaceable stylus. The stylus is a nude natural diamond with a Gyger S profile, a line contact with a 5 µm radius whose shape comes close to that of the cutting head.

Pocan body

The body is a one-piece moulding in Pocan, a very rigid glass-reinforced polyester, which holds the fixed parts firmly and can be tightened securely to the headshell. Each cartridge is built by hand; the stylus is user-replaceable.

Fitting and matching

It has the standard half-inch mount and fits most tonearms with an effective mass from 5 to 25 g. It connects to an ordinary MM phono input, with a 47 kΩ load. Tracking force should be kept between 1.5 and 2 grams (1.75 recommended). As with any cartridge, after fitting it you should set alignment, tracking force and anti-skating following the tonearm instructions.
